GOOD or BAD: The Cable Guy (1996)

Directed by Ben Stiller, this movie has nothing to do with Larry the Cable Guy but something else entirely. Starring Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick, The Cable Guy was notable for its dark tone, which was different from Carrey's work like Ace Ventura or Dumb & Dumber.

Due to this, audiences and critics at the time were divided on it including Siskel & Ebert. Roger Ebert called it one of the worst movies of the year while Gene Siskel called it Jim Carrey's best since The Mask. Even so, people thought this movie would kill Jim Carrey's career.

Over the years, Cable Guy has garnered a cult following. I myself really enjoyed the movie for its dark tone and Carrey's performance. It was different and bizarre but that's why I like it so much. Maybe audiences weren't ready for this kind of movie at the time. What do you think of The Cable Guy?
