The Strangers, while it falls apart towards the end of the film is near flawless at the beginning. The pacing and titlation is perfect. It goes out of its way to show the threat, but let your imagination take over. You know they're in the house, but you don't know who they are, how many there are or more importantly, where they are. This scene is possibly the peak of the film and personally in my top 5 best shot scenes in horror. The icing on the cake is how out of focus the killer is, making that mask look so much more sinister, but at the same time human enough that you recognise this could happen to you.
